We are strongly committed to have you come to Madrid in 2017 for the ERA-EDTA Congress.

We hope the attractive scientifi c programme we are preparing will meet your expectations: the Scientifi c Committee, chaired by Peter Stenvinkel is working very hard to provide the latest cutting edge science, but, as always, we will also provide a wide range of CMEs on the fi rst day and the traditional clinical sessions will also be of extreme interest.

One amazing aspect of Madrid is the city’s wide variety of cultural and leisure opportunities, enough to keep you entertained from the early hours of the morning until late at night. If you have not been to Madrid before you will have a hard time to select the best places to visit or things to do. The city has great museums with the best of both classic and contemporary arts, parks and friendly, charming and romantic corners.

However, do not rush to visit all of them, after a couple of days we are sure you will -on purpose-, leave many things to see in Madrid to have an excuse to come back.

PRELIMINARY SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME

For the 54th ERA-EDTA Congress, which will be held June 3rd-6th 2017 in Madrid (the 3rd largest metropolitan area of Europe) the scientifi c committee has created an attractive and balanced programme, comprising reports on latest research results as well as high-level overview presentations. The central theme of the congress “Nephrology - much more than kidney disease” is refl ected not only in the symposia and minilectures but also in the plenary lectures, which include presentations by world-renowed scientists addressing the diverse topics kidney regeneration, bioelectric medicine, the re-creation of life and adipose tisse. The core of the scientifi c programme are more than 70 symposia and mini-lectures on main aspects of kidney diseases and its many complications as well as transplantation and hypertension. The programme integrates signifi cant results of basic research in the context of the daily clinical work of the nephrologist. As in previous years, the ERA-EDTA programme is thematically organized in nine different themes:

1) Fluids and electrolytes, tubular transport, physiology
2) Hereditary disorders, development, pregnancy, paediatric nephrology
3) Glomerular diseases and general clinical nephrology
4) CKD: pathophysiology, epidemiology, prevention, progression, aging
5) End stage renal disease, hemodialysis
6) Home therapies and peritoneal dialysis
7) Kidney transplantation and immunology
8) Hypertension, vascular diseases and diabetes
9) Acute kidney injury and intensive care nephrology

The programme will also contain sessions dedicated to the most recent clinical trials and observational studies with a later abstract deadline. In addition, activities on the fi rst day of the conference will include various CME courses, many of them organized by the ERA-EDTA Working Groups (CKD-MBD, Descartes, Diabesity, European Renal Nutrition, EUDIAL, EURECA-m, Immunonephrology, WGIKD) and by the ERA-EDTA endorsed working group EUTox. Finally, a series of symposia and CME courses will be organized in collaboration with other European societies and other international nephrology societies.
